Amanda Brugel

(February 27 2010 (February 27, 2010 Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a small community that lies on this part of the island of Montreal known as the West Island. The West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a huge area that extends from Lachine up to the west. Amanda Brugel was born there although her time there was short. Brugel lived in Courtice near Oshawa the city of Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height meant she was able to outgrow her dance partner. According to an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I grew out of male companions, I stopped. Some former dancers switch to acting. In the case of Brugel, it was a suggestion by a high school drama teacher that pushed her to take the next step. The teacher encouraged her to take part in the school's production. She threw herself into it and ended up playing the character of Anne of Green Gables. It led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's career has seen her appearing in a variety of TV and film productions. Her most notable role was Rita (shown below) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 which was only seen occasionally.
